About The Perth Mint

In 1899, Western Australia faced a gold rush, drawing prospectors daily. The Perth Mint opened as a Federation Romanesque building, serving as the goldfields' hub. Initially a branch of Britain's Royal Mint, it processed WA gold into over 106 million sovereigns by 1931.

By 1970, the Perth Mint was fully Australian-owned, having evolved from a sovereign mint into a global leader in pure bullion and collector coins.
